POLICE: Teenager allegedly tried to hide the gun used to kill ISP Trooper

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) - Police have charged a teenager for allegedly hiding the gun used to kill Illinois State Police Trooper Nick Hopkins last week in East St. Louis.

Al Stewart Jr., 19, of East St. Louis, knowingly concealed physical evidence by hiding a .40 caliber Glock handgun in the kitchen of his home at 1426 N. 42nd Street, East St. Louis, police say. He is being charged with armed violence, obstructing justice and possession with the intent to distribute cannabis.

The officer was gunned down Friday while serving a search warrant. 

Another suspect, Christopher Grant is being held on a $5 million bond after being charged with murder in the trooper's death.

procession took place Monday to transport Hopkins' body from Saint Louis University Hospital to Waterloo.

A visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Waterloo High School, with a first responder and military walkthrough beginning at 6 p.m. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, also at the high school.

Hopkins leaves behind his wife, Whitney, and three young children.
