ST. LOUIS (KMOX) updated at 8:45 a.m. - A fatality has been reported in the accident that shut down westbound Interstate-70, Friday morning.

Our traffic reporter Rodger Brand reports police say there has been a death caused by the accident on I-70 near 170. He also says there is no timetable yet for when the westbound lanes will reopen.

KMOX's earlier reporting:

Westbound Interstate-70 has been shut down between Hanley Road and 170 since a little before 7 a.m. Friday due to a multiple-vehicle accident that includes a tractor-trailer.

If you're coming out of downtown and trying to get to the airport you want to look for alternate routes.

KMOX's Rodger Brand has been following the accident this morning and says the stalled traffic has stretched back to Riverview Boulevard.

There are also delays on southbound 170, as drivers heading east on I-70 are slowing for the accident in the opposite lanes.

Emergency crews are on the scene but there is no word yet on when the accident could be cleared.

There are injuries, but details have not been released.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated.
