ST. LOUIS (KMOX) updated at 4:45 p.m.NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman's visit to St. Louis was not to make a formal announcement of any kind, specifically to the dismay of anticipating local media, no All-Star Game announcements. Bettman answered the question before it was even asked.

"Yes, at some point we could and should and would hold an All-Star Game here," Bettman says. "I just don't have the date or the time frame based on other commitments."

Bettman commemorated the work of Stillman and Zimmerman to upgrade St. Louis' franchise with arena renovations at Enterprise Center and the start of contrustion of a new multi-sheet practice facility.

"Thing evolve, nothing is stagnant and you have to be adaptable, you have to be forward thinking," Bettman says. "You have to be willing to commit resources to continue to stay on the top of your game."

KMOX's previous reporting

Tonight isn't just the season opener for the St. Louis Blues. It's not only the first regular-season hockey game in the newly renovated Enterprise Center. Tonight could also be the night NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announces an All-Star Game is coming to St. Louis.

He is in town for tonight's game and will have a 4 p.m. press conference with local media at Enterprise Center. Blues owner Tom Stillman knows the words "All-Star Game" might be mentioned a few times during the press conference.

The 2019 All-Star Game will be hosted by San Jose, but the 2020 and 2021 hosts have not yet been announced. A winning bid by St. Louis would be third time St. Louis has hosted the game, joining the 1970 and 1988 games at the Old Arena.

The commissioner was in St. Louis in February and wasn't shy about predicting St. Louis as soon-to-be hosts of an NHL All-Star Game:

KMOX will update this story after the press conference with comments from Bettman.
