ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Police on both sides of the river are looking for the criminals who supplied a deadly batch of heroin to some users in the Alton, Ill., area. The drugs caused eight overdoses, including two deaths on Friday.

Investigators are trying to track down the dealers who sold what authoirities believe was heroin laced with fentanyl. Alton Police Chief Jake Simmons tells KMOX in several cases it took between and 10 doses of Narcan to revive the victims. One of the victims overdosed three times in a 14 hours period.

Simmons says it's believed the victims bought the tainted heroin on Dunn Road in north St. Louis County and on Shrewsbury Avenue in south county. He says they're working with Missouri-side authorities to find the dealers.

"To be honest with you, they are just scumbag devils," Simmons says. "They are evil doers and I hope we can arrest as many of them as we can before more people die."
