Pi Pizza Owner to Re-Open Mexican Restaurant

July 13, 2018 - 8:01 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis area restauranteur Chris Sommers is reopening a Mexican concept he had to close two years ago.

Sommers says Gringo closed in 2016 because he was too busy expanding the business he's mainly known for, Pi Pizzeria.

“We’ve put in place a lot of systems for Pi, my workforce, now that have freed up some resources and time to do this again and because we’re not starting from scratch, it’s not as herculean of a task,” he says.

Sommers says the downtown Pi is his best performing restaurant -- he expects conventions, sports and a growing residential base will help maintain a brisk business.

Gringo is expected to open at 7th and Washington early this fall in the first floor of the Embassy Suites building.

“It’s a bright, fun atmosphere, great margaritas, the house margarita is inexpensive and really yummy, and it’s sort of, if you will, an upscale taqueria without pretention,” he says.
