ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Police have identified the remains discovered in Bee Tree County Park last September as those of a St. Louis man who went missing following a car wreck.

The use of DNA has led to the identification of 27-year-old Christopher Harris, whose car crashed near the Lewis Bridge on North Highway 67 along the Missouri River last July.

At the time, investigators identifed the car as Harris' but an exhaustive search of the area turned up no signs of him.

Then in early September, authorities were alerted to the discovery of a shoe containing a human foot washing up on the banks of the Mississippi River in South County.

Police say the condition of the foot revealed it was not "forcibly removed" from Harris' leg, but a report does not identify a cause of death.
