ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County Police are responding to allegations they caused the accident that killed two men last Friday.

Several groups contend Mikel Neil and Townsal Woolfork didn't die in a single vehicle crash, but a St. Louis County officer caused the crash during a pursuit.

“Officers tried to follow the vehicle, they lost sight of it, they didn’t see the vehicle from there on out, and they back to their precinct to patrol,” says Sergeant Shawn McGuire.

The official story is that Neil lost control around a curve and hit a tree. Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash. McGuire says county officers were called to the scene by Highway Patrol after they talked with witnesses about possible county police involvement. Highway Patrol took pictures of the undamaged county car as part of the investigation.

McGuire also says rumors that police saw the accident and didn't stop to help are also untrue.
