ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  St. Louis County Police are touting the safety of Metrolink, despite the recent attack on board a train in North County that left a man beaten with facial fractures.  Police Chief Jon Belmar says perception lags performance.

“We have to have a situation right now where I think we have to have […] the understanding that we’re doing everything we can to make Metro as safe as it can be for people who travel on it,” he says.

Belmar says crime on Metrolink is down more than 45 percent this year in both St. Louis County and St. Clair County and down 22 percent in St. Louis City. Three men have been charged in the recent beating, which was captured on a westbound train between St. Charles Rock Road and UMSL.
