ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - They’ll be testing things like self-repairing roads and autonomous vehicles in Rantoul Illinois.

It’s part of a proposed $25 million project that would add a test track to the Illinois Center for Transportation for researchers to study such ideas. The News-Gazette reports that the project proposed at the Advanced Transportation Research and Engineering Laboratory would include a signalized intersection, a roundabout, bridges, a railroad crossing, bus lanes/stops and a bike/pedestrian safety site.

Researchers from around the country, the Illinois Department of Transportation and universities in Illinois and nationwide are studying transportation-related issues at the center.
