Rep. Bruce Franks Says Arch Foundation Made a Mistake

July 06, 2018 - 10:41 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An apology from the Gateway Arch Park Foundation has failed to quell the controversy over Tuesday's all-white ribbon-cutting at the Arch museum.

State representative Bruce Franks Jr. in a Facebook post said he wasn't invited to the ribbon-cutting and knew nothing about it ahead of time.

He did acknowledge that the organizers of the event had said they're sorry because the event didn't "reflect the diversity of our community".

"They made a statement and they apologized. When you make a statement and you apologize, you’re not making that statement because you thought you were right, you’re making that statement because you know you made a mistake,” he says.

Bruce says they aim to rectify that mistake with another ribbon-cutting at noon today that will feature people of multiple ethnicities.
