Report: Cancer Deaths Down in Both Men and Women

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The annual report to the nation on America's war on cancer is out.

“Cancer death rates continue to decrease in the Unites States among both men and women," as do the number of new cases of most cancer types, according to Dr. Adetunji Toriola, a Washington University epidemiologist at Siteman Cancer Center. “Which is a testament to an early detection of most of the new cancers and also improvement in treatment."

Tremendous gains have been made in reducing the instances of colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer in men, he says.

There is, however, an increase in new cases of late-stage prostate cancer, and after decades of decline, prostate cancer mortality has stabilized.
