CLAYTON (KMOX) — The St. Louis County Council is slowly putting itself back together.

Tuesday night, Ernie Trakas was selected presiding officer until at least January, when the council selects a chair and vice chair.

"Some sense of normalcy and business sense will be undoubtedly obtained with respect to making that lease a realistic and reasonable deal for the county, compared to what it was."

He said work is already underway to re-do the much-maligned Northwest Plaza deal struck during the Steve Stenger administration — and that kind of deal-scrutiny will continue.

"Every deal will be scrutinized by both the County Executive's administration and the council," he says. "The ones that appear to be questionable will be revisited."

The council is down two members — with Sam Page becoming County Executive and Hazel Erby joining his administration.

Trakas expects a five-person council, with three Republicans and two Democrats, until at least September.
