Residents Voice Concerns Over Proposed Monroe County Wind Turbines

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - “It’s just a black eye, and that’s my feelings,” says one of the opponents of a proposal to build up to 50, 600 foot tall wind turbines along the buffs of Monroe County.

County Commissioners heard an hour of public comment concerning developer Joe Koppeis' plan to install the windmills along a 14 mile stretch from Valeyer to Fults. Resident Christine Mertz tells KMOX they would ruin some of the region's most beautiful terrain.

"Some of these people just bought houses up there, and they put all of their money into raising their family in a place that’s beautiful and then have this thing go up in their backyard,” she says.

“I can see nothing that will benefit the overall good of Monroe County,” says one man.

Monroe County officials say there will be several more public hearings, and studies, before any decision is made.
