ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood is transforming into a juried art festival this Memorial Day weekend.

It's called Schlafly's Art Outside Festival -- it's meant to highlight local works and attracts artists from up to 150 miles away, there are 65 this year. Schlafly Founding Brewer Stephen Hale says some artists claim this is their favorite festival of the year.

I’m always intrigued visiting the booths every year to see friends we’ve gotten to know over the years, some of the artwork they produce every year, jewelers and sculptors and painters, and to see new ones is always really refreshing because it really opens your eyes to the possibilities of what art can be,” he says.

The festival runs from Friday night through all day Sunday. It’s free to attend although you'll have to buy food, beer and art. Schlafly's introducing limited run Artists Series ale called "Gruit". It's brewed with spices, herbs and botanicals instead of hops.
