ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Saturday will feel nice as temperatures rise but the warmer weather this weekend carries a risk of severe weather.

The St. Louis area will need to be on guard for possible severe storms, mainly in the afternoon hours.

LATEST: Forecast from Accuweather.com

This threat is part of a larger system that covers a large swath of the Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys.

Last weekend, the deadliest day of tornadoes in the U.S. in nearly six years, left 23 dead in Alabama.

While most in the St. Louis area will see a marginal risk for severe weather, southern parts of the area will have a slightly higher risk, with the most severe chances being near Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

A wind advisory has been issued for some of the area and after the storms push through, those areas can expect remaining non-storm gusts over 40 mph.
