Severe weather expected in St. Louis region Tuesday

Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) —  The St. Louis region is expected to experience a round of severe storms later today.  

According to the National Weather Service, the Mississippi River valley is at an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts, large hail and isloated tornadoes.

A tornado watch is in effect for Central and Eastern Missouri into Western Illinois until 10 p.m. tonight. A tornado watch is in effect until 7 p.m. for Southern Missouri.

A flood warning continues along the Mississippi River from north of St. Louis in Canton, Mo. to south of the metro at Chester, Ill. A flash flood watch is in effect in the region until midnight tonight.

There is a 40% chance for thunderstorms during the day, and into the evening that chance increases to 95%. Flash flooding and wind gusts up to 70 mph are likely. Tornadoes are possible. The high for today is 81 degrees and the low is 60.

Tuesday's Cardinals game has been postponed due to the forecast until Wednesday.

The Blues are still scheduled to play Game 6 tonight, however, the Enterprise Center issued the following statement earlier today:

“The safety of guests in and around Enterprise Center is our #1 priority. We are monitoring the severe weather that is forecast for Game 6 of the NHL Western Conference Finals on Tuesday, with assistance from the City of St. Louis Department of Emergency Management, Department of Public Safety, and St. Louis Police Department. We ask guests to please arrive early and be mindful of the weather as they arrange for travel to and from Enterprise Center. In the event severe weather occurs during the event, all guests will be asked to remain in their seats until the weather has passed. If a severe weather event is happening at the conclusion of the event, guests will be allowed to remain inside the facility in the seating area until the weather has passed. Guest Service team members will be available to direct and answer questions.”
