Six Months In, Alton Security Cameras Still not Functioning at 100%

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's been almost six months since crime-fighting cameras were installed on the Clark Bridge at Alton, and there's still one aspect of the system that isn't working.

As of this morning, East-side officials are not yet able to receive immediate notification when a vehicle is stolen on the Missouri-side of the river. So, Alton Police Chief Jake Simmons says for now they're entering that information by hand.

"Our dispatcher will sit in the morning and she’ll type all that information in, until we get that Regis and Leeds issue worked out, and we can start getting things immediate, that’s what we’re working on," he says.

Simmons says they hope to have the issues with Regis and Leeds, the two states' crime information systems, resolved within a couple of weeks. Despite that, Simmons says since they're installation in late December, the cameras have helped them catch several suspected criminals.

"We still have the capability of getting on there and trying to find out who the bad guys are that come over into the metro east to do evil," he says.
