ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis alderman spends a day and night in jail, with no word yet on when he might get out.

KMOX's Kevin Killeen reports that Alderman John Collins Muhammad was served the same lunch as all the other prisoners awaiting trial -- a bologna sandwich with juice.

The 26-year old freshman alderman was arrested Monday after a minor traffic accident in north St. Louis, when police found out he was driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

They also learned Muhammad is wanted for skipping traffic court in Jefferson City.

Potentially, he could be sent to Jefferson City, but for now his fate is unclear.

Muhammad was elected to the board last year and serves the 21st Ward.
