St. Louis Based Project 4-22 Speaks in Favor of Medical Marijuana for Vets

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - When a Missouri House committee met to discuss medical marijuana, they heard from a fledgling St. Louis-based group known as Project 4-22.

Executive director Blake Bell says their main mission is to explore pot's ability to alleviate what he calls the "epidemic" of veteran suicides, at least 22 of which occur on a daily basis.

"With today's medical advancements, more veterans are coming home that would have died in other wars, so they have new issues to work with. If you have someone with missing limbs or traumatic brain injury that you've saved, they still have to live with those conditions, what do we do? We give them opioids, we give them narcotics," he says.

And he says that merely contributes to the growing opioid abuse epidemic in this country.

Right now he's trying to gather 22 veterans to take them to a Cannabis Research Conference in Colorado in April, go to "Project" to find out more.
