ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - New numbers show St. Louis has become a haven for car thieves.
The city was second only to Kansas City statewide for the number of vehicles stolen, with a total of 8,100 in 2017.
That's an increase of more than 1,000 cars in just two years, which goes against the national trend of decreasing vehicle thefts.
State Farm recommends not keeping a spare key in or on your car - they say bad guys know all the hiding places. Thirty-thousand cars a year are stolen nationwide with the keys still in the ignition.

They also recommend keeping your windows rolled all the way up - even in the summer, and consider a vehicle recovery system that makes it easier to find a stolen car.
