ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Illinois unveiled a new St. Louis Cardinals-themed license plate Thursday night at Busch Stadium.

Each license plate sold will contribute $25 to an education fund in the state.  The plate will cost drivers $69.

In addition to offering Illinoisans another avenue to express their team spirit, money raised from the specialty Cardinals plates will support public schools in the state.

Since a state statute passed in 2002 to allow professional sports teams to be represented on license plates, the Cardinals, who were specifically mentioned in the law, will be the sixth team to take advantage of it. The other five teams with their own license plates include the Chicago Bears (NFL), Blackhawks (NHL), Bulls (NBA), Cubs and White Sox (MLB).
