Hóla el Birdos: Cards Will Play 2-Game Series in Mexico in 2019

There will be a total of six MLB games played at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey next year.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds will play a two-game series in Monterrey, Mexico during the 2019 season. MLB made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the full 2019 regular season schedule was released.

There will be a total of six MLB games played at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey next year. The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks will play two spring training games there on March 9-10, the Cards and Reds have their pair of games on April 13-14 and the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros play a pair of games on May 4-5.  

This will be the first trip to Mexico for the both the Reds and Cardinals organizations, while many of the other traveling teams have already played games south of the boarder in recent years. Earlier this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres played in a three-game series in Monterrey.

MLB has put renewed emphasis on international games since Rob Manfred became commissioner in 2015. Next season's MLB schedule also includes games in Tokyo and London.

Oakland and Seattle will open next season at the Tokyo Dome on March 20-21.

MLB players are paid an extra $60,000 each for regular-season trip to Asia or England, and an additional $15,000 for trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic, reports the Associated Press.
