SPANISH LAKE, Mo. (KMOX) — We now know the name of the St. Louis City police officer killed while driving the wrong-way in North County last night.

58-year-old George Boggs was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash on Highway 367 near Lindbergh.

St. Louis County police handed their investigation over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who says Boggs drove his 2003 Pontiac Montana going north on 367 but in the southbound lanes.

A 23-year-old man from Godfrey, Illinois was driving in the right direction on the highway and swerved to avoid Boggs' van, but wound up getting struck in the front.  Boggs' van went off the road, flipped over, then returned to the roadway.

The medical examiner declared Boggs dead on the scene.  The other driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
