ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's hip hop appreciation week, and they're celebrating it at St. Louis Public Library with a full schedule of workshops, performances, story times and special events that range from learning to break dance to the more practical things.

“The legal and accounting aspects of it…so if you were trying to break into the industry industry, here’s some things you need to set things up, to get your label out there, to get your music out there,” says Jen Hatton with SLPL.

Hatton says St. Louis native "Bates" will perform in the auditorium Thursday night, and then Saturday night, the father-daughter group and YouTube sensation called Beatboxing with Mentor and Apprentice.

“It’s not just about the music, it’s about the culture, it’s about dance and celebration, storytelling, or poetry,” Hatton says.
