ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - One of the hottest and most humid days of summer 2018 in the St. Louis region turned out to be a stormy one, too.

The first round of heavy downpours, lightning, and winds hit during the 3 pm hour. Trees were knocked down, and at least one street light was damaged in neighborhoods near downtown. There was pea-sized hail reported in Granite City, Illinois. A wind gust of 71 miles per hour was reported in Caseyville, Illinois. The Cardinals versus Reds game at Busch Stadium was delayed for a little less than an hour. Scattered power outages occurred, including one that wiped out a planned racing event at Gateway Motorsports Park.

The second round of storms began hitting the area after 5:30 pm. It forced a second delay of the Cardinals game, and we were alerted by Maryland Heights Police that the start of the Rob Zombie-Marilyn Manson concert at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre would be delayed. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for several counties. More power outages were reported from the second round of storms.
