GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) - Vandals knocked the heads off two statues outside Holy Family Catholic School in Granite City, early Tuesday.

The parish priest, Father Jeff Holtman, says surveillance video's been given to police.

He had this reaction when KMOX News asked him about the contents of the video, "I'm a little disgusted. From what we know, definitely two boys and two girls were casing the joint at about 11:30 pm, and by 2:00 am they came back, and that's when they busted the heads off."

Father Holtman says the statues are of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph the Worker.

He thinks they've been on the property since it was called St. Margaret Mary in the 1960's.

Granite City Police weren't releasing any details on their investigation, as of late Tuesday.

Father Holtman thinks the vandalism was likely a prank, and not an anti-Catholic act, "Irresponsible children that are not being raised by their parents properly. My feeling is if the children are caught, they should be punished, along with their parents. But, it doesn't work that way in our country."

He says the heads of the statues were recovered.
