Stenger Signs Executive Order Ahead of Council Meeting

June 12, 2018 - 9:57 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County Council members and County Executive Steve Stenger keep trying to steal each other's thunder.

Stenger signed an executive order to 'ban the box' or restrict inquiries into job applicants' criminal histories the day before a county council committee was to talk about the same thing.

Meanwhile, another council committee wants to do a once-over on Stenger’s plan to revive the former Jamestown Mall.  Last month we told you the county found a buyer for the site, but economic development partnership Sheila Sweeney says she can’t say who. She does promise it’s a good one.

“They’ll be higher paying, those jobs are going to come along with a full package of benefits, tuition reimbursement, there’ll also be a job training component,” she says.

You can expect more questions about this deal at the hearing, which starts at 5:30 tonight.
