Suspect Detained Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Alton

Officers discharged their weapon at the suspect, after he struck and injured two officers with his vehicle.

An Alton man is under police watch at a local hospital after being shot while fleeing from them.

Officers say 34-year-old Todd Lockhart hit two Alton police with his car, early Friday, and was wounded by other responding officers.

More than 12 hours after the incident... U.S. marshals found Lockhart in Alton and took him to the hospital.

The two officers hit by the car were treated and released earlier Friday.

Alton Police are handling the Lockhart criminal investigation, and Illinois State Police are reviewing the use of force by responding Alton officers.      

 

ALTON, Ill (KMOX) - Illinois State Police are now handling the officer involved shooting in Alton. It happened just after 3:30 this morning in the 1000 block of Tremont. 

Alton police responded to a call of a man with a gun, police say officers discharged their weapon at the suspect, after he struck and injured two officers with his vehicle. 

It's not clear if the suspect was hit by gunfire, he managed to escape. Investigators say he's in Saint Louis, driving a white Pontiac Grand Prix with Missouri plates:

AJ9D7Z . 

The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave. They've been treated and released for their injuries.
