ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's life in prison for a St. Louis County teen involved in the 2017 murder of a grandfather who was in town to see his newborn granddaughter in the Tower Grove Heights neighborhood.

Judge Michael Mullen told 17-year-old Richard Donaldson that life in prison is appropriate for the crimes he admitted to committing last February, including second-degree murder.

But, the judge said victim Kenneth Spalter's widow wants the 17-year-old to get a chance to turn his life around, and maybe be freed on parole someday, which Mullen said is a possibility.

While the teen did plead guilty to second-degree murder, robbery, and armed criminal action charges, he maintains he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. However, he is not giving prosecutors the name of the person who allegedly did.
