CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOX) -  The tiny home phenomenon is being co-opted as a fundraiser for the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The house -- measuring 8-by-20 feet for a total of 160 square feet -- has been built to raise funds for the St. Louis chapter of Habitat for Humanity according to spokesperson Harper Zielonko.

"It's built onto this trailer, so the trailer comes with it as part of the prize," she pointed out. "We hope (the winner) takes it around the United States, or maybe they park it on some gorgeous lakefront property. Depending on the municipality maybe they'll park it in their back yard."

Despite what they do for communities, Zielonko said the tiny house is not a new direction for Habitat-built homes.

"We build affordable, decent, simple housing here in St. Louis city, but that usually means somewhere around fifteen-hundred square feet," she explained. "This is 160 square feet."

Instead, it's hoped that tickets on sale for $100 apiece can help Habitat raise up to $150,000 to support its local activities.

You can see the Tiny House up close and personal outside the Chesterfield Ampitheather through the day of the drawing, which will be August 17th.
