Oakville High School students built and fill free 'food locker' for elementary school

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Oakville High School students have built and filled a "food locker" for fellow students. 

The locker is at Trautwein Elementary in south St. Louis County.

High schoolers brought the idea to the principal, Doctor Shannon Henderson. 

"Real excited to be a part of a community where students are thinking about this global world that we live in and doing great things already," Henderson says.

Ace Hardware donated materials, Schnucks has also already made a donation to the project. The Mehlville School District's facilities staff helped put it all together.

The way it works is anyone can take food and any one can add food. It's the same premise as the "free little libraries" you may have seen where you can take a book and leave a book as you please. But this is with food for students who don't always have food for breakfast, lunch or an after-school snack.
