Twitter CEO Talks Election Involvement, Abusive Speech in D.C.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's a double-header on Capitol Hill today for St. Louis native and Twitter CEO  Jack Dorsey.

Dorsey will be joined by Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg in the morning on the Senate side, to talk outside interference in political campaigns, and then Dorsey alone will go to the House side, where the questions will likely be more wide-ranging, including about abusive speech.

Dorsey was asked by NBC's Lester Holt last month about whether computer algorithms alone can find dehumanizing speech, or whether human moderators need to be involved.

“It’s both; algorithms are not going to solve everything. We can’t rely on AI solutions or machine learning solutions or deep learning to solve all of our concerns… I think there’s a relationship between what an algorithm can do, which it can achieve a look at massive scale of everything that’s happening, it can take so much into consideration and then bubble up interesting [information] so that humans can actually use their own judgements around it,” he says.

The Wall Street Journal reports Dorsey personally overrode his staff's decision to kick conspiracy theorist Alex Jones off the platform.
