ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Two of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's finest will be better-protected thanks to a generous donation.

K9s Sid and Niko were each given a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s. The group takes private and corporate donations to supply police department K9s with protective vests.

Sid's vest was sponsored by the Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club in New York. Niko's vest was sponsored by an anonymous donor.

Each vest is worth between $1,700 and $2,300 dollars.

If you'd like to donate to Vested Interest in K9s or volunteer, please call 508-824-6978. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provides information, lists events, and accepts tax-deductible donations of any denomination at their website or mailed to P.O. Box 9 East Taunton, MA 02718.
