UCity Will Not Use Imminent Domain to Make Way for New Retail, Apartments

May 01, 2018 - 7:55 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - University City does not plan to use eminent domain to take homes for a new retail and apartment project at the intersection of Olive Blvd. and I-170.  We've previously told you about this proposal, from Jonathan Browne of Novus Development.

“This is not just another shopping center, I don’t know any other shopping center that changed a third of the city,” he says.

Browne hopes his project boosts the third ward and provides a financial help to the rest of the city. Last night, some residents attended a city council work session.

Many small businesses in what's become known as our region's "Chinatown" don't want to be displaced.

The next big meeting on the project is Wednesday May 23rd at 7 p.m. That's where tax increment financing, or TIF, incentives could be approved.
