May 24, 2018 - 7:10 am

UPDATE: 8 AM - St. Louis police release preliminary details of their investigation.

They say a 61-year-old male witness told them he and a 48-year-old man had been doing drugs overnight in the 2500 block of University.

The witness said he left the acquaintance alone for a moment then came back and found him unconscious. So, he drove the man to the central patrol station and notified police.

Officers say the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An unusual scene in front of the St. Louis Police Department's central patrol command center this morning.

On the walkway leading up to the front door there's what appears to be a body covered in a sheet.

Officers on scene did not allow reporters to get too close.

They didn't share any details on what happened and referred questions to a desk lieutenant, who also told KMOX News "no comment."

There was a red pickup truck with both doors wide open just steps from where the covered-up object is.
