Wash U Examines Genetic Link to Opioid Addiction

September 07, 2018 - 7:41 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Washington University researchers want to understand how genetics affects opioid addiction.

It's called the Opioid Misuse study, and it will look at why some people are able to avoid addiction to opioids.   Wash U researchers are seeking 2000 study participants who have used opioids recreationally but not become dependent on the drugs.  They say these people may be able to help researchers identify protective genetic factors that may provide insights for helping those who become addicted to opioids or are at high risk.
