Washington Post Claims Audio Proves Trump 'Made Up Facts' in Trade Talks

March 15, 2018 - 10:45 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Washington Post says it obtained audio from Wednesday's private fundraiser for US Senate candidate Josh Hawley at the Frontenac Hilton.

Reporter Josh Dawsey appeared on CNN this morning and described what President Trump told attendees about trade talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"He said, essentially, 'I made up the facts at this meeting,' he said 'I don't really know but I'm going to guess that we have a trade deficit,' even though the United States trade representative says there's a surplus," he says.

Dawsey said Mr. Trump also told those at the Hawley fundraiser that some allies are not looking out for the best interests of the United States.

"The President kind of riffed, as he usually does, on a whole smorgasbord of topics. He talked about trade, he talked about South Korea, potentially pulling out troops if he doesn't get what he wants in trade with Seoul," he says.

Trump has not responded to the Washington Post report.
