Work Begins on New Hill Neighborhood Attraction - Piazza Imo

August 01, 2018 - 7:39 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Work is about to get underway on a new attraction in the Hill neighborhood.

It will be called Piazza Imo and will be located across the street from St. Ambrose Church on Marconi Avenue.

Monsignor Vince Bommarito with St. Ambrose says it will make a great addition to the neighborhood.

“Brides will be able to go over there and take pictures after their weddings, we’ll be able to start liturgical events over in the piazza if we choose to,” he says.

Marge and Ed Imo of Imo's Pizza donated the lot where the piazza will go and that's why it bears their name.

There will be chess and checkerboards, benches and meeting areas, as well as a large grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Work gets underway soon and is expected to take about three months to complete.

Father Bommarito says they're still collecting the $1 million or so in private donations to fund the piazza.
