ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  Work on the new NGA West site in north St. Louis is running ahead of schedule.

Bulldozers are seen daily criss-crossing the nearly 100-acre site northeast of Jefferson and Cass carving out huge chunks of space for the massive complex.

It will replace the current NGA site near the Anheuser Busch brewery.

Congressman Lacy Clay tweeted out that progress is moving ahead of schedule on the $1.75 billion project, keeping more than 3,600 jobs in the St. Louis area not to mention hundreds of construction jobs.

Next up is selection of the actual construction companies that will complete the work from among three joint ventures that were announced as finalists last fall:

*  Alberici Constructors and Mortenson, among several other companies, including Corrigan Company and Civil Design.

*  McCarty Building Companies and HITT Contracting, along with engineering firms Fluor, Gensler, and Black & Veatch.

*  Clark Construction Group, JE Dunn Construction and HOK as the lead design firm on the team.

The final construction team is expected to be chosen in a few months.

Construction itself comes in around $700 million, with the remainder of the cost related to putting in specialized NGA equipment and the city's share of preparing the site.

The new NGA West site is slated to open by 2024.
