ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Cyber security experts say allowing employees to work from home during the coronavirus pandemic is new territory for some businesses, and it's one that can bring greater risks.

Jonathan Tock, Director of Security Operations for St. Louis-based SpearTip says some companies were not prepared.  "For a company to just now be setting up a VPN, a lot of security risks that come with it.  New equipment can be a big security risk if not set up properly."

Tock adds home routers can lack security -- some have factory passwords that can be found online.  He suggests employees work with their company IT provider to get those changed.

Tock also recommends businesses have content blocks in place so that employees cannot access questionable websites using company equipment.  And he suggests multi-factor authentication for accessing email and virtual networks.
