ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The world's largest sugarcane technology company, based in Brazil, is deciding to set up its North American research headquarters in Creve Coeur.

C.T.C. will open an initial office in the Danforth Plant Science Center while building out more permanent space next -door.

“They’re the largest sugar company, technology company in the world, so its sugarcane for ethanol, sugarcane for food,” says Danforth Center C.O.O. Sam Fiorello.

He says the company put St. Louis up against other research hubs like Raleigh-Durham before deciding. One of the factors that helped seal the deal was that the St. Louis area has more plant science PHD's than anywhere else in the world.

Local boosters have been successful in convincing bio-science companies from Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Argentina and now Brazil that St. Louis is the best spot for their North American operations.
