ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After weeks of discussion, the St. Louis County Council votes to put a 1/8-cent sales tax on the November ballot to support the Saint Louis Zoo.

Colleen Wasinger was one of five members casting "yes" votes.

“I think the zoo has made a credible case for allowing the vote,” she says.

Mark Harder cast one of two "no" votes.

“I just don’t see this as the time or place for a tax for something like this when other means of financing have not been exhausted,” he says.

Ernie Trakas was the other member voting against.

“The aggressive and repressive nature of it, impacting the people least able to afford it, the impact on retail sales, the fact the county has other needs,” he says.

Election Day is November 6.
