Ferguson Native Makes It To London’s Royal Albert Hall

Double Grammy Award-winning jazz and soul singing sensation Gregory Porter returns to the Royal Albert Hall next week with 3 special shows, accompanied by a full symphony orchestra. He’ll be joined by his drummer and Ferguson native Emanuel Harold. That’s quite the journey, from Ferguson to the Royal Albert Hall in London!

Find out Sunday at 2 p.m at the Kirkwood Public Library when our own Carol Daniel will be joined by Donnybrook’s Alvin Reid, Don Corrigan of the Webster-Kirkwood Times, and Julie Smith of Webster University on a panel discussing “How Teaching Media Literacy Can Save Our Plugged-In World.” Retired TV reporter Betsey Bruce will moderate. The public is invited.

Thanks to Jimmy Marsala for the nice “shout out” in his new book, “Memories of Chuck.”  Marsala, who played with Chuck Berry for 41 years, says the Chuck Berry statue in the Loop “would not have been completed without the persistence of Charlie Brennan and Joe Edwards.” Truth is, about 95% of the funds raised came from listeners of ”The Charlie Brennan Show.”

It was 50 years ago that Belleville’s Bob Goalby won The Masters golf tournament. He told me this week on KMOX that he was not allowed to take the green jacket outside of Augusta. He won The Masters, put on the green jacket and then the Augusta Country Club took it back. One would think the club would spring for one new jacket every year.
