Brutal Winter Freezes Blood Donations/Supply

by Debbie Monterrey,

Our brutal winter has had a huge impact on area blood donations.  Thanks to snow, ice and cold, the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) had to cancel 86 blood drives over the past few weeks, which means a loss of more than 2,800 donations, as well as 700 cancellations at donor centers.

On Tuesday, March 5th,  join me and my colleague, Greg Hewitt of 102.5 KEZK, at American Eagle Credit Union in Soulard for a blood drive where we will do our best to make up for lost blood donations!

The blood drive runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Greg and I will be there from 11:30 to 1:00). The MVRBC blood donation bus will be in the parking lot at 423 Lynch Street. The KMOX Street Team will be on hand with Bubbly and trinkets. All donors will receive a voucher for the IMPACT store.

We will see you there!

(And honestly, if you can’t make it that day, we understand. But get out your calendar and then schedule an appointment here. MVRBC provides blood and blood components to 19 area hospitals and then need is never-ending).

It has been a pleasure taking part in American Eagle Credit Union's Random Acts of Kindness campaign. In celebration of their 80th anniversary of serving our community, they're all around the area doing good. I've been a member of American Eagle for a dozen years and appreciate their commitment to the region.
